Feeding the Birds

With all of the snow we have had lately, our little feathered friends came into our thoughts. We already have the traditional bird feeder full of black sunflowers, but we wanted something more, something that required a little more effort on our part....

hollowed out acorn squash full of seed, cut up apples and oranges, pinecone peanut butter feeders

F had to do some research first......

Then it was time to get down and dirty! Wow....how much you can learn about a person by how they spread peanut butter on a pinecone!

After cleaning up, it was time to make our gifts to the birds available.

Something to know about: we are big bird watchers in my family and on Feb. 13 we are going to take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count. It's very easy, all you have to do is observe and record the birds you see in your yard. For more information go to http://www.birdsource.org/gbbc/.

That's awesome! I was outside scattering seed for the birds yesterday for a few minutes before I realized my horse was following behind me licking it up. =) I need to make a feeder!

Another fabulous idea! Did you find the birds to like the seeds more or the squash more?
