Birthday and Earth Day

Seriously......39? How did that happen??? Why is it that time seems to go so much faster as you get older??? Here I am at 38, the day before I turned 39.

Here I am on April 22, the next day, and now 39. I don't look any different and I sure don't feel any different. I wonder, how will I look and feel next year at the big 40?

Don't get me wrong, I don't think of 39 as old by any means, especially when my Great Aunt Curt is 99 years old! Wow, that's 60 years older than 39! Every trip to Virginia includes a visit to see this spunky lady. She still lives in her own home by herself, she is quite independent and a little bit stubborn (sorry Granny if the "little bit stubborn" is written too lightly). Actually, she was planting flowers yesterday and pruning shrubs in her yard. I am always in awe of her (and my 80 something year old grandparents as well). Age really fascinates me; Curt and my grandparents are true examples of the saying, "You are only as old as you feel."

That's enough age pondering for me. I had a wonderful birthday! We spent 10 hours on the road from NW Virginia through beautiful West Virginia then on-ward to Ohio. The weather was weird...we experienced snow, rain and sun. While on the road, we stopped to antique and admire the beauty of West Virginia. How can you not have a wonderful birthday with such lovely travel companions, Robin (little sis), Fauna and Araina?

We stopped at The New River Gorge Visitor Center where the dogwood trees were in full bloom.

And these gorgeous ferns were everywhere!

Inside the visitor center they have a watershed exhibit. One wall is covered from ceiling to floor with gallon water jugs. We learned that an individual person uses, on average, 100-120 gallons of water on a daily basis. Wow, that is A LOT of water and was the perfect thing to learn on Earth Day!

My lovely family did not forget the cupcakes on this road trip. Robin had them stashed under the passenger car seat. I had no idea and was quite surprised!

I hope everyone had as wonderful of an Earth Day as I had!

Happy birthday & Earth Day to you, Lisa! It sounds like you had a fantastic trip. Speaking of WV, have you ever stopped at Tamarack right off I77? Very cool to watch all the craftsmen. :)

Happy Birthday, Lisa... looks like you had a lovely day. Age IS fascinating! I don't feel much different to when I was in my 20's and then I thought 36 was well over the hill. My Great Gran lived to be 103... and completely 'with-it' as the saying goes in my family. The highlight of her life was getting a birthday card from Queen Elizabeth on her 100th Birthday. She had it framed and it hung over her bed... too sweet. It is now a family treasure as it meant so much to her.

You wouldn't happen to be related to a Claudia who lives in Michigan, would you? You and your sis look just like an old girlfriend of mine. Wait, she's not old, we're old friends....oh, heck...you know what I mean!

Happy Birthday to you!
And, 39 is still young you know..(my age is 43 and I also feel young!). My dad ones told us, while he looked at an picture of himself as a four years old, that he still felt the same little boy, haha!
Love the cupcakes too...
Greetings from the Netherlands.

Happy, Happy Birthday!!!!!!
I also turned 39 this year, so we'll have to help each other next year, I'm not overly paranoid about age, but 40 seems like a milestone to me! :D
