Challenges, Character Flaws, and Giveaway Winner......

I strive for perfection on a daily basis....this is my huge character flaw. When I'm not a "natural" at something it is hard for me to get back on that horse again. As I get older I'm really starting to see what a downer this kind of attitude is. I don't want to pass this on to my girls, I want them to try many things and if they do fail at something, then just try again until they get it.

Hula Hoop Challenge......thumbs up!
So, here is Fauna with the hula hoop. It took a lot of practice, but now she is so good she can drink AND hula hoop at the same time. I have learned a lot from this little lady today. BRAVO Fauna!

Jelly Making Challenge.....possible
failure!
I guess it would help if I followed the directions, but oh no, "I'm sure I'm a natural at this!" HA! that isn't so. Now, I haven't given it the 24 hours it might take to set, so the truth will be told tomorrow. Regardless, we are going to try again....back to gathering the last dandelions blooming in the yard. I am going to get this, I am! I've got big jelly plans for the summer....mint jelly, lemon balm jelly, violet jelly, lavender jelly, you get the jest of it.

ETSY Challenge.....so scared of failure.
I have all kinds of felties just waiting to be put in the little shop, but I haven't done it yet. I have had strangers stop and ask me if I sold them, but still I just say no. Fauna is standing here telling me right now to get over this fear and just do it. So much wisdom from a 7 year old. So I'm putting a deadline on myself...the shop will be up this weekend. I'm not fishing for compliments here, you all obviously like them enough to take the time to enter the giveaways, thank you all sooooo much for your support; without you all I wouldn't even have considered it!

By the way, congratulations Erin from Wild as Weeds , you have won the purple coneflower pendant. Send me your address and I'll ship it off to you soon. I LOVE having the giveaways so I will do another one soon.

Oh, another character flaw......I can be so impatient!
As I was writing about our failed jelly making, Araina ran in with what appears to be.....Dandelion JELLY!!! I will post how to make this in the next few days. Great chemistry experiment for the homeschoolers out there.

It is so wonderful your children can be such an inspiration for you. I love looking at the world through my daughters eyes. Even if it means looking at myself more critically. Great post, thanks. Good luck with your store opening!

I think it's great that you are opening up an etsy shop. Mine is almost empty right now and I set a deadline of this weekend for myself too.

I'm having a giveaway on my blog right now that ends Thursday, in case you want to enter it!

Take care
Cortni

I totally understand your fear of pressing the Etsy enter button. I have so much stuff and i dont even post alot of it on my blog because i am so scared of failure. That is definately not an example I want to set for my kids..... im going to check that you got brave and pressed ENTER and listed on etsy :)

I'm excited to see what you'll be putting in your Etsy shop.
My daughter seems to have a similar personality, with wanting to do things perfectly the first time. Taking on fun challenges like the hula hoop, or jelly making is a great way to deal with perfectionism.

Spent some time outside in fields of dandelions today. Thought of you and all the inspiration you give me. So glad you have such gorgeous sources for yourself in those little ladies. Can't wait for the shop to open!! All the best!!

Very much looking forward to your Etsy shop....

My goodness! I've been reading your blog for at least two months now & I always assumed you WERE on Etsy.

If this makes you feel any better about opening a shop, I opened one about two weeks ago: (http://www.senseofwonder.etsy.com).

Then, I changed the banner twice. Then, I changed my shop's "Section" names about 5X. Finally, this morning I listed an item--and then...had a relative buy it! I did this just to make sure everything runs smoothly.

So...unless you are this goofy...don't feel bad about being a little nervous.

My shop is up & running and I still have not filled it. I am just as nervouss. :o)

Well, if you're not perfect, I don't know who is! ;)

You have been so inspiring... We checked both Twig and the PTOE book from the library this week and are LOVING them! My boys are especially into PTOE, but I'm excited to do some fairy house-making soon. :)

Be easy on yourself, Mama! Your girls are so lucky to have you!

I used to love hula hooping as a child! Children have so much to teach us :)

Yay! I can´t wait to see your shop. We all have that little voice in our heads reminding us of all the things that can go wrong. (Really, there have been studies.) Just ignore it! That´s what I do...:)

I feel very strongly that your Etsy shop will be a success.... you are so talented and creative - folks would love the opportunity to share in that.

When I'm struggling with fear of failure I try to remember the dinner table scene in the movie Meet The Robinsons where they all applaud mistakes and encourage family members to make them!!!

I love Tara's "Meet the Robinsons" comment. I need to keep that in mind. Hula hooping is something I have not done in years! And she does it so naturally, even with a drink in hand! I wish many blessing over your new Etsy shop. :)

I just wanted to add- there is nothing to be scared about with etsy! :) It is so simple- you'll wonder why you didn't do it earlier. And you actually get a monthly bill, you don't have to worry about each little transaction fee seperatly. :)

Let us know when you get your shop- we'd all love to support you!

woohoo for jelly!!

There's no such thing as "failed" jelly :) If you must, put on your revisionist thinking cap and decree it -syrup- !

p.s. - just committed my favorite typo of the day thus far - by typing "thinking cat"originally

i hear you on the "if it doesn't come naturally put it aside!" i was just thinking about that quality and whether or not my girls were picking up on it...i second the jelly-to-syrup amendment - i had to do that with blackberries a few years ago - no one complained that they had to use it on pancakes instead of toast!
good on ya for setting yourself this wonderful, creative challenge - can't wait to check it out.
